Let’s face it! You don’t need another toaster, another dish set and while you can totally make use of some new china, do you really need or want it?!
My new husband and I, combined households when we got married. We actually had to figure out what we were going to keep, throw away, donate, etc. Some things were easy to part with, while others were very hard. So hard that I’m sure we both have some things stashed away. (Insert Martin Season 3, Episode 7 Here. Lol.)
When it came time to officially tie the knot, the last thing we needed was another household item, so we registered with Amazon Wedding Registry and asked for gift cards only.
It was easy and we were able to apply the gift cards to things that we actually needed, included money towards larger, more expensive household items.
If you are anything like me, you are worried about tact. Here are a few examples of some tactful ways to say what you mean and get what you want (we used #2 on our wedding site and correspondence):
- “We know it’s not traditional and not the way it’s done, but rather than a wedding list, we’d love a bit of sun. So if you’d like to give a gift and send us on our way, a donation to our honeymoon would really make our day”.
- “What we really want is all of our friends and family together for our big day, but for the traditional gift-giver out there we are registered at (insert registry link here)”
- “We’ve lived together a year or two, we really don’t need anything new. Your presence as a guest is all that we request. But if you insist on giving a gift, some pennies for our honeymoon would give us a lift.”
You can be creative and print them on cute little cards, or include them on wedding site. Here are some more suggestions on this Pinterest Board! HERE
