Mistake #1: Not Hiring A Wedding Planner
Yes, you are Super Woman… there’s no arguing there. But even superheros need a little help. Even if you plan to do the whole wedding yourself, life would be alot easier (and less stressful) if you hire a Day-of Wedding Coordinator. The last thing you want to do is sweat the small stuff when your coordinator can be there to do all of it for you.
When I got married this past September, I was one of those “oh I can plan it myself” type of girls. However, I did hire a planner for my Destination Wedding.
My planner was also my day-of coordinator. She made sure I knew where to be and what time. She corralled my bridal party together. She told my Groom where to stand. She told us when to walk, where to walk and how to walk. She made sure my guests signed our guestbook (which was VERY important to me). She made sure they were seated and ready to go. The day-of coordinator puts out smoke before they even become fires.
Mistake #2: Not Hiring a Makeup Artist
I’ve said this before… seriously. On your wedding day, your head will be swarming with thoughts. Can you seriously focus on make your makeup being perfect? Even as a professional makeup artist, I wish I hired a makeup artist for my day. As strong women, we wear many…many…(sometimes too many, LBVS) hats. But on your wedding day, you should only be wearing one hat… THE BRIDE. I am a strong advocate for hiring the professionals.
If you still decide to do your own makeup on your wedding day, practice…practice…practice your bridal look and get the timing down to an hour or less. Applying your makeup should be second nature by this point so make sure you allow ample time to learn and practice.
Don’t know the first thing about bridal makeup? Don’t worry, I can teach you. I teach in person and virtual makeup lessons. During your one-on-one lesson with me, I will go over your ideal look, your wedding vision, skin care regimen, products, and application.

Mistake #3: Trying to Please Everyone (Parents Included!)
Don’t forget that this day is about the two of you. I know you hear it all the time. Don’t get caught up in what your parents want or any feedback from your wedding party. By all means take suggestions, but at the end of the day, the final decision is up to you and your honey.
Mistake #4: Doing it All Yourself
I’m not talking about your wedding planner. I’m talking about your Bride Squad (your Bridesmaids)! If you need help, that’s what they are there for. Give them assignments, bounce ideas off of them, etc. Don’t be stressed out if you don’t have to.
Mistake #5: Getting Sucked Into Information Overload
It’s so easy to get sucked into the latest trends, Pinterest Boards, blogs…basically all wedding everything! It’s okay to turn to these sources for ideas and inspiration. The best advice I can give you is to find a theme and a few ideas that you like and stick to them! No matter how much you want to change something up, it would be less stressful if you go with your heart and your own vision.
It’s very easy to want to change something in your plans because you read a blog on “10 Bridal Dos and Don’ts”. By all means, take everything into consideration, but if you are feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to step away and do your own thing. I talk more about developing your Bridal Theme and Vision in my free ebook.
