Self-Care Techniques to Keep Stress in Check

Self-Care Techniques to Keep Stress in Check | Crystal Ngozi Beauty & Esthetics

I know, I know, the Big Day is fast approaching. You have fittings, catering tastings, travel agent meetings, etc. Your head is spinning! See a few of my personal pointers to alleviate pre-wedding stress.

READ

I know it sounds simple, or even cliche, but I love to read. If you are a bookworm like I am, you can relate to the feeling of getting lost in a good book. I personally like non-fiction books surrounding my career and personal growth. Find a book that interests you and make time to get lost in it. It is actually really refreshing!

Work It Out!

Working out always makes me feel better about life. I normally train with my trainer 3-4 times per week. Even a walk in the park or down the block will make the world of a difference. Some people work out with music. However, when I go for a walk or a jog, I actually don’t listen to music. Personally, it is very serene to just listen to nature as I walk.

Find a Hobby

Sometimes balancing work, life, and wedding planning can be a real balancing act. Shouldn’t “wedding planning” be lumped into the “life” part of “work-life balance”? I say, no! Life and wedding planning are two totally different categories. Lol. But finding a hobby can actually reduce stress and take your mind off of daily stressors. As a matter of fact, I actually become more creative when I work on my hobbies.

Zone Out

When I’ve had a long day, by the time I get to my car, I am not ready to talk to anyone #JustBeingHonest. I LOVE to listen to music and play it loud! If this is your cup of tea, try listening to your favorite album and vibe out on the ride to and/or from your destination.

Vibing out to 90’s R&B gets me in my zone and my stress level would have gone from a 10 to a 2 by the time I park at my next destination.

If music doesn’t get you in your “zone”, find out what does… is it exercise? Is it working on a craft? Is it shopping?

Do Whatcha Want!

No seriously! Nothing keeps me sane more than ditching the to-do list for the day and winging it! Being a “over-planner” like myself, sometimes being unstructured is exactly the remedy! Whenever I am feeling too overwhelmed, I scrap the to-do list and go do what I want. That doesn’t mean follow the typical advice of going for walk, take up yoga, and so on. I mean REALLY do you! I can’t tell you what that is. It could be laying on the couch doing nothing. Putting down the phone. Picking up the phone. But the moral of the story is, sometimes you have to do what’s best for you. The key to success with this tip is that once you feel rested… go back to the grind!

Feel free to use one, some or all of these pointers. And of course, you can always make up your own. Your self-care is about YOU! So do what makes YOU feel good! What techniques do you use to ward away the stress and energy vampires?!
